KayaPuti Restaurant Bali- a Touch Of Brilliance

KayaPuti “meaning white roof” is the signature restaurant of the St Regis Hotel, Bali. We decided to review it having been tipped off that it was something special. We weren’t disappointed.

Located in the lush grounds of the hotel, KayaPuti offers an extensive menu and wine list overlooking the Indian Ocean. It’s friendly and knowledgeable staff add to the dining experience with smiles and service of the highest standards.

It wasn’t easy to select individual dishes from the menu as doing so meant that we would miss out on so many others we fancied, so we decided to run with the “Menu Decouverte”.

This comprised of an amuse bouche of Panko fried oyster with apple sambal.

Followed by Tataki of yellowfin tuna…….delicious!

An Asian spice oxtail dumpling with scallop followed which was light but bursting with flavour.

Our favourite of the day then followed- Tomato confit, fresh organic herbs, parmesan cheese, Thai basil oil, spinach tortellini. Fantastic!

Following closely behind our favourite of the day was the char-grilled king prawn in a light coconut emulsion. Think of the best red curry you have ever had and then improve it by 10!

We were now struggling for stomach room as this is a tasting menu of really, quite generous proportions. Black angus beef striploin, with King mushrooms, leeks and a soy sauce, was nice but as rare beef lovers it was a little overdone at medium. We weren’t asked how we’d like it so perhaps this is the way Chef feels it is best served?

Finally and before we fell asleep, a refreshing lemon tart with pandan mascarpone rounded everything off, with a lovely cup of coffee!

We’ve been fortunate to eat in some fine dining restaurants (Il Palagio reviewed here https://www.fivepercent.life/four-seasons-michelin-star-restaurant-il-palagio/

and the Palme Do’r Cannes) and can tell you that KayaPuti is right up there with the best as an overall eating, service and location  experience. It’s not cheap, but it’s not particularly expensive for the quality provided.

We’d recommend it to anyone travelling to Bali who is looking for that fine dining experience and it would score a solid 9.2 from us!

A truly memorable dining experience.
